6 Questions To Answer Before Getting A Pet
Having a pet can bring so much joy into your life. It can also help you get out of loneliness and boredom. However, that is not the whole story. In as much as the arrival of a pet can enrich your life, it also entails a great deal of responsibility and if you get one on a whim without counting the cost you may become frustrated.
Taking on a pet is something to be done after careful consideration and with all sense of seriousness.
If you’re looking to get a pet, ask yourself these questions:
Why?
You need to ask yourself why you want to get a pet. Is it just because it takes your fancy or because someone is telling you to?
You should only get a pet if you’re genuinely interested in getting one, you understand the responsibility involved and you are ready to take it on. Anything short of this means you’re not ready for a pet and you should get one.
What Type?
You should also ask yourself what type of pet you would like to get. For example, you could decide to get a dog and if a dog, which breed do you want? All these questions are really important because different animal have some distinct and different behaviours and you should settle with the one you can handle and be comfortable with.
How Many?
You should also decide if you want more than one pet. This is really important. Generally, the best things is to get yourself one pet first and see how it goes before getting another one.
Do You Have The Time?
Your pet is not a piece of furniture that you can get and leave somewhere without bother. You have to make out time to care for and even play with your pet. You should realise this and decide in advance if you actually have the time to care for one.
If you’re going to need people to constantly help you with feeding, walking or checking up on your pet, it probably means that you can’t handle a pet yet. A pet needs quality time; if you can’t offer that don’t get one.
Can You Afford It?
You will need to feed that pet, get supplies and take it for regular visits at the vet. Do you have the resources for that? Can you afford the extra cost of owning a pet? This is a very serious question that you must take time to answer.
It would be terrible if you rushed out to get a pet only to discover that you really can’t afford one.
Are You Allergic?
Before you get a pet, make sure that you’re not allergic to that animal. Don’t take it for granted because you may be allergic and may have simply never discovered. Maybe you never really hung around animals and so couldn’t discover it.
Find out if you’re allergic to that kind of animal you’d like to get for a pet or not. If you’re it’s fine but if you are you choose to get something else.
