How To Effectively Optimize Your Monday Morning
It is very important for you to know how to effectively optimize your Monday morning. Monday is known to be the busiest day of the week. Resuming to work on Monday morning might be a bit difficult especially when your weekend is fun-filled. The following tips will help you optimize your Monday morning
- Don’t Think About It
The more you think about it, the worse it becomes. The way I deal with the Monday Blues to not think about it. Does it go away? I am not sure. But it sure makes me feel better. Think of it as you can’t scratch. If you think about the itch, it seems to get itchier. So, I just don’t think about the Monday Blues and I do not remind myself of the feeling. I simply ignore it and I feel better immediately. Get that concept out of your mind. The more you think about it the worse it becomes.
- Get up earlier
If you really want to change your Monday mindset, start as you mean to go on. Try waking up ten minutes earlier, and slow your morning routine right down. No more brushing your teeth in the shower, or doing your make-up on the train, can only be a good thing. Multitasking is overrated anyway
- Pray
Yes! Pray….prayer works. There is no basic form of prayer. Starting a new week by committing everything in God’s hands really helps. You can pray in your language, religion or other ways. Remember to also pray for your colleagues and those that you’ll be transacting with during the week.
- Get Your To Do List Ready On Sunday
When I return from a long vacation, I use the day before to tidy up my list of things to do at work. It helps me plan out and prepare for the load of work that awaits me when I get back to work the next day. I use the same system to deal with Mondays.
Get your to do list ready for the new week. When you have a properly planned list, you feel you are more in control and hence feel less of the Monday Blues. Being prepared a day before is surely a good way of dealing with Monday Blues.
- Get Some Sunlight
Or rather, get out into the open when you can. Sometimes, just by being outside helps. There has been research that shows sunlight stimulates our feel good hormones and it helps deal with the blues – Monday Blues or otherwise.
- Don’t go back to sleep
Feel like you can’t function without an extra half an hour doze on the way into Charing Cross? Change it. You’ll only end up waking up in a foul mood, possibly covered in a puddle of your own dribble. Fight the temptation to slip into slumber, and you’ll feel better for it. The person who sits next to you certainly will.
- Eat breakfast
The nutritional and mental benefits of the day’s first meal are well-documented. What isn’t quite as well documented is just how easy a gourmet breakfast can be on-the-go. There’s brioche, baps, bagels. Let’s face it, bacon practically cooks itself*.
- Eat something different
At times, our dissatisfaction comes from our monotonous patterns. Guess what? You’re the owner of your life and if you want something to change, you need to make it happen. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or a snack at work, treat yourself to something brand new. Make it exotic, tasty and satisfying. I like to mix in guavas, sesame toasted seaweed, and even homemade hummus! These are the small things that get you moving through the day with a smile on your face.
- Wear something new or dress up
I know you’ve heard that dressing for the role will help you perform better and I hope you believe it. I work from home and truthfully, I don’t leave pajamas most days. Putting on “real clothes” and even some fun earrings makes me feel like I’m ready for Monday and excited to start the week.
- Start Early
Let’s face it; sometimes it isn’t the Monday Blues that drags us down. It’s our laziness. Or, what I like to call “inertia from the weekend.” We sleep in on Saturdays and Sundays and have a leisure weekend, our body expects Monday to be the same. So, we hit the snooze button and before you know it you are rushing again. We all know what happens when we rush. We skip breakfast, have small mishaps and before you know it, your weeks start of the wrong note.
We blame it on Monday, but it is not about Mondays – it is simply laziness. Start your Monday early and see how that changes. Have a good breakfast and see how it changes your Monday.
- Plan something to look forward to
Whatever it is, it doesn’t have to be Monday. In fact, I would recommend planning it for mid or later in the week. It feels so nice having something fun and exciting to look forward to outside of work. It doesn’t have to break the bank either. Have a family member over, visit your neighbor or play a game! Mr. Mike and I love playing Uno… fun times!
- Realize It Will Be Over Soon
Everything that starts must end. It’s the same with Monday Blues. It’s just the morning that you are usually most affected. Just tell yourself it isn’t permanent. It’s just a phase and as with everything else it will go away. It happens on Monday and it’s just a few hours. Before you know it, it will be over. Do not dwell on it. Create your own dominant thought that masters your mind. Monday Blues need not own you and you need not fear it. The more attached you are to the concept the worse it will affect you. Try some of these tips and see how it will help you tackle your Monday Blues.
- Hydrate… in a fun way
This may sound basic and even off topic but hear me out. Most people do not drink enough water. With the stress of a job, tending to clients, selling, answering phones and emails or whatever your job may entail, we often get distracted and simply forget! Keep water by you at all times and spice it up with something fun. I add frozen fruit, cucumbers or lemons to my water. Your brain will operate more smoothly and you’ll feel better overall moving Monday up on the awesome scale
- Don’t scramble, just recoup
Monday snooze session. Monday traffic jam. Monday office drama. Monday to-do list that’s unbelievably sky high. Monday emails. Yup, I know what all of that looks like. Rather than trying to do everything on Monday, organize and prioritize. Sort your emails and projects by level of importance. Plan out what you can do the next day and for the rest of the week. We’re not “backed up” from the weekend. Weekend is off time! You are allowed to re-assign stuff, even if it’s to yourself. The quality of your work will improve, and your sanity will remain intact. BAM
- Smile and show thanks
This is something we should do no matter where we are. Remind yourself of your opportunities and show appreciation to anyone who has helped you get there, including yourself! I like to make fun little cards for my family and friends once a week. Maybe bring in some candy or treats for the people you work with. Get the positive juices flowing and remember, karma is a real thing
Add a picture to your workspace. Print a pic from your phone, pick up a frame and stick it on your desk. It could be your spouse, your pet or your favorite place you’ve visited. Let your eyes fall on the things that you know make you happy. Change them up every now and then. This one is golden, trust me.
- Find a Monday happy place
The sure-fire way to ensure your Monday morning morale remains high is to make it stand out. Think of all the things which make you happiest, and find ingenious ways to work them into your day. It could be making an inspiring playlist for your morning commute, going for lunch with an old friend, or bookmarking something interesting to read on your lunch. The choice is yours. Our go-to move is ordering something to arrive at our desk bright and early. Mondays may not be able to buy you happiness, but money can…
