Pain can occur in any part of the body, that is, it is not restricted to only certain parts of the body. That is why we feel pain in different parts of the body at different times.
The wrist joint plays a major role in the functionality of the hand and in basic movements, from texting to writing. When pain occurs, it can interfere with day-to-day activities and even impact a person’s quality of life.
Wrist pain is any discomfort in the wrist. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can cause wrist pain. The pain can also be mild or severe depending on the cause(s) of the pain.
One significant thing to note about pain generally is that they have common causes mostly. This is to say that their causes are always similar.
For instance, causes of most pains include sprain, strains, injuries, accidents, diseases, and infections, among others.
Wrist pain can be caused by disease or injury affecting any aspect of the wrist joint, including the bones, ligaments, and connective tissue surrounding the area.
Like any other pain, the causes of wrist pain include; strains and sprains, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, dislocation, repetitive motion syndrome and when we overstretch ligaments etc.
Symptoms of wrist pain are dependent on the cause of the pain. Some of the symptoms include; pain in the wrist, soreness, aching, a stiffness of the wrist, inability to use the hands well, swelling of the wrist, numbness, tingling etc.
The weakness of the hand might also occur when pain is due to carpal tunnel syndrome.There might also be trouble holding, grasping or gripping objects.
Treatment of wrist pain also varies, depending on the cause of the pain as wl as the symptoms exhibited by the pain.
Major treatments are:
- Wearing a splint on the wrist.
- You can also rest the wrist.
- Apply ice or heat on the wrist.
- Exercise it.
- Take pain relief medication.
- It is also important to s the doctor for proper prescription, medication or surgery as the case may be.
Wrist pain prevents the patient in using their hand due to an inflicted wrist. If not quickly treated, the pain might aggravate, causing unbearable pain to the sufferer.
