The risk factors of this gum infection includes the following;

5. Age is another risk factor.

Also, there are diverse symptoms of gum disease. Normally, healthy gums are firm and pale pink in color. They fit around the teeth but when gum disease occurs, the common symptoms include the following;

One of the ways to prevent periodontitis is by practising a good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss it regularly.
