Mikel Considers Quitting Chelsea in the Summer Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel admits he is considering leaving the club at the end of the season. The Nigerian defensive midfielder Mikel says he is ready to exit Stamford Bridge in the summer after 10 years if he is not guaranteed regular first-team football next season. The 28-year-old midfielder has been enjoying a new lease of life at the London club since interim manager Guus Hiddink took charge following the sacking of Portuguese Jose Mourinho last December. Amid uncertainty at the club following rumours of sweeping changes if Antonio Conte takes over, Mikel has made it clear he has no plans to go back to being just a fringe player.
“I have one more season with Chelsea but I know when this season ends, we will definitely sit down and try to sort out whatever needs to be sorted out.
“If it means me leaving, fine. If it means me staying, then I have to play because one thing I don’t want to do is to sit on the bench like I did before.
“It’s not very nice, especially now when you have kids you just want to do what you can to play,” said the Super Eagles captain.
“Wherever it is I just want to play. When this season ends we will definitely sort out the contracts.
“Legacy is important and I’m very proud and happy that I’ve kept this legacy to be able to achieve what I have achieved.”
