Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that mainly affects the scalp. When this skin condition occurs, it causes scaly patches, red skin, and stubborn dandruff.

Aside from the scalp, this condition can also affect parts of the body, especially the oily parts of the body.

Also, in most cases, when this disease occurs, it causes a rash on the skin. The rash will be reddish and it can sometimes be swollen with a crusty scale on its surface.

Parts of the body that seborrheic dermatitis can plague include, the face, the nose, the ears, eyelids, chest and the eyebrows can also be affected.

Also, this condition can affect babies, seborrheic dermatitis can affect their scalp, face, chest and even their diaper area. It often appears in form of a red rash.

In babies, it disappears without traces, however, in adults, it might not be so. It might not disappear permanently, such an adult might experience its recurrence and this often poses a great concern to the affected individual.

The common symptoms of this condition include; skin rash, itchy skin, redness of the skin, skin flakes, etc.

Some of the treatments for this skin condition include the use of shampoos that contain tar and that are effective in combating skin diseases especially those that affect the scalp.

You can also take over-the-counter medications. Anti-inflammatory creams are also effective. Salicylic acid, zinc, selenium sulfide, or ketoconazole are also helpful.
