Acid reflux also occurs when there is a seeping of the stomach acid into the esophagus. When the stomach acid leaks out of the stomach and moves up into the esophagus, there is always a burning sensation that a person feels.

In order to avoid the occurrence of acid reflux or heartburn, there are certain foods that you must avoid.

But surprisingly, most foods that cause heartburn and acid reflux make up more than half of our diet and this is why it is almost impossible to avoid all.

Even if you try to stay away from some of them, one finds it difficult to totally do without these foods.

It is also important to note that foods that trigger heartburn and acid reflux vary from person to person.

2. Avoid chocolate and caffeine

Chocolate and caffeine play a major role in the occurrence of heartburn and acid reflux. Chocolate contains caffeine and other stimulants such as theobromine, which cause reflux.

3. You should also avoid soda and other drinks such as liquor, wine, beer, coffee, and tea. They can trigger acid reflux or make the heartburn become worse.

4. Avoid eating foods that are high in fat, they can also cause heartburn.

5. Dairy products such as sour cream, milkshake, ice cream, regular cottage cheese, etc can also trigger heartburn.
