6 Apples
Eating an apple a day can make skin glow. Apple has vitamin C in abundance which keeps your skin firm and gives it an inner radiance. Apple also prevents free-radical damage which causes premature skin ageing. Apples are the richest source of malic acid, a “fruit acid” extracted from apples. Fruit acids are known in the health world as alpha hydroxyl acid. Malic acid is gentler than other acids used in beauty treatments such as glycolic and salicylic acid. Malic acid promotes healthier, firmer and youthful looking skin by renewing skin cells without damaging the skin layer.
7 Pomegranate
Pomegranate enjoys a special status in the health community, with super food qualities in league of green tea and blueberries. When it comes to nutritional power, the entire fruit is rich in nutrients, including the peel, the white membrane, the fleshy part (arils) and the seed.
Pomegranates are packed with a high dose of antioxidants, which reverse free radical damage and promote supple youthful skin.
8. Lemon
Our skin tends to look dull when it has scars, acne and blackheads. But lemons can keep that from happening. It has high content of vitamin C which is needed for the synthesis of collagen.
Squeeze a lemon in a glass of warm water and have it first thing in the morning. You can add a spoonful of honey also in the mixture. Or, simple add a dash of lemon juice on your salad.
9. Almonds
Almonds are full of one of the most oft-associated vitamins with skin care, vitamin E. That’s because this vitamin helps repair scarred cells and defends against sun damage. Volunteers who consumed 14 milligrams of the vitamin per day (about 20 almonds) and then were exposed to UV light burned less than those who took none. And because vitamin E also acts as an antioxidant, it also works to keep your body free of dangerous free radicals. Almonds are also one of the best sources of dairy-free calcium!
10. Potato
Why you need it: Anti-inflammatory in nature, sweet potato has high vitamin A content which helps fight acne-causing bacteria. The presence of vitamin C further improves skin tone and heals pimple scars. A study in the Journal Evolution and Human Behaviour showed eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables gives a healthier, more attractive, and more radiant glow than you would get from sun exposure. But it was those who consumed more portions of red and orange vegetables per day who had the greatest sun-kissed complexion—the result of disease-fighting compounds called carotenoids that give those plants their colors.
11. Dark Chocolate
Forget the sunscreen pack a bar of chocolate in your beach bag. That’s because the antioxidants in dark chocolate known as flavanols reduce roughness in the skin and provide sun protection. According to a study from the Journal of Nutrition, women who drank cocoa fortified with a chocolate bar’s worth of flavanols had better skin texture and stronger resistance to UV rays than those who drank significantly fewer flavanols. Chocolate is also a great source of pre and probiotics to help heal your gut and reduce inflammation.
